Roots Hall - Southend United F.C

A short trip (about 50 minutes) from Liverpool Street Station for the midweek fixture against Southend United coming at the start of the 2007/08 season. This marked the start of an unimpressive slump which ultimately cost Gary McAllister his job. This was my second visit to Roots Hall having previously seen Kingstonian win here in 2002 in their impressive FA Cup run!

The ground is a typical football league stadium with the away fans housed in a 'cow shed' (scratchin' shed for the old Leeds fans). The away fans are close enough to have a bit of atmosphere and you find yourself being very close to the pitch which is also brilliant. Lots of restricted view seats but a great old stadium!

The home end is two tiers to make up for it being extremely shallow (much like Brentford's away end). I don't think anyone was sat in the right seat - not that anyone was sitting - and the stewarding didn't exist! Just push the Leeds fans in and hope it goes OK!

Southend were eventual winners 1-0 on the night. It was very cold and very dark by the time I got home and I was distinctly unimpressed. I've never seen Leeds win at Roots Hall but do enjoy my trips here!
