Colchester Community Stadium - Colchester United

Colchester Community Stadium - Colchester United F.C - 2009
Go to nowhere - somewhere in the middle you'll find the ground

End of August and with Leeds enjoying a perfect start to the season so far and aiming to go unbeaten they travelled to Colchester United who had started the season well. Colchester staff and fans are a very friendly bunch who were very accommodating to all the Leeds fans travelling down. Colchester had just thrashed Norwich and then lost their manager to the same team. Money talks in League one!

The stadium is only a couple of years old and the facilities are very good. The ground looks like it is made of lego (as most new out-of-town stadiums) but the views are pretty good with a big screen showing the activity on the pitch.

The Leeds fans were in good voice housed predominantly in the grounds North stand and with about 1/3 of the east stand with a collection of flags and the sun in our eyes! With Leeds doing the buisness on the pitch eventually running out 2-1 winners it was left to the travelling Leeds fans to sing the team home. The attendance of almost 9000 doubling the average gate so far this season. You're only here to watch the Leeds!

I'm not a massive fan of new built grounds - where they excel in view, leg room, facilities and quality they lack badly in history, character and atmosphere. Not an intimidating place to come but then in Colchester that's hardly a point. It is, after all, the community stadium and has it's own role to fulfil in that respect. I'll be sad to see the day when Leeds move to something similar.
